JOHANNESBURG - Legendary actress Cynthia Shange has died at the age of 76.

Shange died in a KwaZulu-Natal hospital after an illness.

She rose to prominence in the 1970s after being crowned Miss Africa South, later representing the country on the global stage at Miss World in London, where she placed fifth.

Beyond pageantry, Shange built a successful acting career, captivating audiences in popular productions like Udeliwe, Shaka Zulu and later in the soapie Muvhango.

Her contribution to the industry earned her lifetime achievement honours,

cementing her legacy as a trailblazer in South African entertainment.
