22-year-old Minentle Mjali was allegedly gang-raped and murdered in a horrific incident that reportedly took place during the early hours of 18 April 2026 at a house in Noordwyk, Midrand, Gauteng.
According to reports from family members and the community, Minentle had visited her boyfriend at his home when the situation allegedly turned tragic. It is alleged that the boyfriend called three of his friends to the house, and the four men then took turns sexually assaulting her before allegedly strangling her to death.
After the killing, her body was reportedly wrapped in plastic and hidden under a bed inside the house.
On 24 April 2026, police allegedly received an anonymous tip-off about a suspected strangulation at the property. Officers traced the address and discovered Minentle’s decomposed body hidden beneath the bed.
Minentle, who was known in the community, had attended Kaalfontein Secondary School and Hoërskool Rhodesfield. Her death has sparked anger and heartbreak across Midrand, with residents and activists calling for justice and stronger action against gender-based violence.
The tragedy also led to a peaceful protest march held on 17 May 2026, where community members gathered to honour her memory and demand accountability.
