Two Elderly Women Found Stabbed to Death Inside Village Home
A wave of shock and heartbreak has swept through the community of Bhakubha Village in Ward 21, Mqanduli, in the Eastern Cape after two elderly women were brutally murdered in a horrifying attack that has left residents living in fear.
The victims, identified as 72-year-old Nokwanele Mcothama and 76-year-old Nowatile Nelani, were allegedly visiting each other when tragedy struck. According to reports from the community, unknown suspects entered the home and violently attacked the two elderly women, stabbing them multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Residents say the attack was extremely brutal. One of the women reportedly suffered eight stab wounds, while the other sustained six stab wounds. Both women sadly died at the scene. Their bodies were later discovered lying in pools of blood, creating a heartbreaking image that has deeply traumatised family members and neighbours.
The motive behind the killings is still unknown, and community members are demanding justice as fear continues to spread throughout the village. Many residents say they can no longer sleep peacefully knowing such a cruel attack could happen to elderly women who were simply spending time together.
Family members described the victims as kind, respectful, and peaceful women who never caused trouble in the community. Their deaths have not only left emotional pain but have also placed a heavy financial burden on the grieving families.
One of the families reportedly hopes to bury their loved one this week, while the other family may only be able to hold the funeral next week due to financial difficulties. Community members are now calling for support and assistance to help give the elderly women a dignified burial.
The tragedy has once again raised concerns about violent crime targeting vulnerable people in rural communities. Many South Africans have taken to social media to express anger, sadness, and frustration over the continued killings of elderly citizens.
Residents in the area are pleading with law enforcement authorities to act swiftly and ensure those responsible are arrested before more innocent lives are lost. Community leaders have also urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist police with investigations.
As the families prepare to lay their loved ones to rest, the pain of losing two elderly mothers in such a cruel manner continues to weigh heavily on the community of Mqanduli.
May their souls rest in peace. 🕊️💔
