Residents of Ezimbokodweni, near Adams in KwaZulu-Natal, have been left deeply concerned following the discovery of bags containing human bones at a local dumping site. The incident has sparked widespread discussion in the community and prompted an ongoing investigation into how the remains ended up being discarded in such a manner.
According to reports, the shocking discovery was made after a local man allegedly dumped several bags at the site, unaware of what they contained. The man, identified as Fikani Vezi, has since shared his account of the events that led to the remains being left at the location.
Vezi reportedly claims that he was approached at a cemetery in Clairwood and offered R400 to dispose of what he believed were ordinary refuse bags. According to his version of events, a receptionist at the cemetery requested assistance with removing approximately 15 bags. He says he was informed that the person who normally handled the disposal was unavailable and that the contents could be discarded elsewhere.
At the time, Vezi allegedly had no reason to suspect that the bags contained anything unusual. He accepted the task and loaded the bags for transportation, believing he was simply helping to remove waste.
However, the situation became increasingly complicated as he attempted to find a suitable location to dispose of the load. Reports indicate that he first travelled to the Isipingo waste management facility, hoping to discard the bags there. Officials reportedly refused permission for the waste to be dumped at the site and directed him to a landfill facility in Illovo instead.
Faced with the prospect of travelling a much longer distance, Vezi allegedly decided against continuing to Illovo. Instead, he opted to leave the bags at a dumping area near his home before departing to collect individuals who were working elsewhere.
It was only later that concerns emerged regarding the contents of the bags. Community members reportedly became alarmed after discovering what appeared to be human remains among the discarded material. The revelation quickly attracted attention from authorities and local residents alike.
The discovery prompted a swift response from law enforcement and forensic teams. Forensic vehicles were seen arriving at the scene, where officials carefully collected several of the bags for examination. Additional bags were reportedly removed the following day as investigators worked to secure evidence and determine the source of the remains.
