Breaking News|| Jub Jub arrested for kidnapping, defeating the ends of justice, and discharging a firearm in a public place.
JOHANNESBURG – South African media personality and musician Molemo 'Jub Jub' Maarohanye has been arrested and is expected to appear in court following an alleged incident involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale.
According to police, Maarohanye faces charges of kidnapping, defeating the ends of justice, and discharging a firearm in a public place.
Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said the incident allegedly occurred at around 7:30 a.m. when an e-hailing driver transported a female passenger to a residence in Edenvale.
Authorities allege that upon arriving at the location, the driver was confronted by Maarohanye, who reportedly accused him of being involved in a romantic relationship with his girlfriend.
Police further claim that the suspect allegedly forced the driver into a vehicle and prevented him from leaving the scene. During the confrontation, it is alleged that a firearm was discharged in the direction of the driver.
Fortunately, the e-hailing driver was not injured during the incident. According to police, he managed to escape and immediately drove to a nearby police station where he reported the matter.
The arrest has attracted significant public attention due to Maarohanye's high-profile status in the entertainment industry. The television presenter and musician has remained a well-known figure in South African media for many years, making the allegations a major talking point on social media and across news platforms.
It is important to note that the allegations against Maarohanye have not yet been tested in court. As with all criminal matters, he is presumed innocent until proven guilty through the legal process.
Maarohanye is expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrate's Court on Monday, where the charges against him are likely to be formally addressed and further details regarding the case may emerge.
The matter remains under investigation, and authorities are expected to provide additional information as court proceedings unfold.
The case has once again highlighted concerns around public safety, the protection of e-hailing drivers, and the importance of allowing the justice system to determine the facts surrounding serious allegations. As the legal process continues, many South Africans will be closely following developments in the case.
