REST IN PEACE: Off-Duty EMPD Constable Banele Skosana Shot Dead at Kwa-Thema Spaza Shop

REST IN PEACE: Off-Duty EMPD Constable Banele Skosana Shot Dead at Kwa-Thema Spaza Shop

The late Constable Banele Skosana, an off-duty Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) officer, tragically lost his life after being shot during a deadly attack at a spaza shop he co-owned in Kwa-Thema, Ekurhuleni, Gauteng.

According to reports, Constable Skosana was either opening the shop or offloading stock on Vilakazi Street when armed men ambushed him. He was shot multiple times and died at the scene. His private firearm was reportedly stolen during the incident.

The shocking murder left the local community devastated, with the case initially being investigated as a possible robbery or targeted attack.

Wife and Alleged Hitman Arrested

The investigation later took a dramatic turn when police arrested Skosana's wife, Sibongile Prudence Dlamini (also reported as Sibongile Dlamini Skosana), alleging that she orchestrated the murder by hiring Nhliziyozabantu Magwanyana to carry out the fatal shooting.

Both were charged in connection with the killing.

Dlamini was arrested shortly before her husband's funeral, a development that sparked widespread public reaction. She later applied for bail and was reportedly granted bail of R10,000 by the Springs Magistrate's Court in March.

She has denied the allegations against her. During court proceedings, she reportedly suggested that foreign-owned spaza shop operators who had previously been evicted from the area could have been responsible for the attack.

Family's Allegations

Members of Constable Skosana's family have also alleged that Dlamini had previously attempted to poison him. These allegations have been widely reported but have not been proven in court.

The criminal case remains before the courts, and all accused are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

A Life Remembered

Constable Banele Skosana dedicated his life to serving and protecting the community. His tragic death continues to leave a lasting impact on his family, friends, colleagues, and the residents of Kwa-Thema.

May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may justice take its course.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, loved ones, friends, and fellow EMPD officers during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Constable Banele Skosana.
