Kaizer Chiefs supporters have been sent into a frenzy following fresh reports claiming that the Soweto giants have completed a sensational move for former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Thembinkosi Lorch.
According to reports circulating on social media and published by SportsWithDailyNews, Chiefs have allegedly “broken the bank” to secure Lorch from Libyan club Al-Ittihad Tripoli. The reports further claim that the experienced attacker was spotted at the club’s Naturena training facilities.
However, there is one major detail supporters should consider before treating the transfer as official.
Kaizer Chiefs have not officially confirmed Lorch’s signing.
At the time of writing, there has been no announcement from the club confirming that the South African attacker has joined Amakhosi.
Recent credible reports have instead continued to link Lorch with Al-Ittihad Tripoli. Soccer Laduma previously reported that the attacker had returned to the Libyan club’s training camp amid uncertainty over his future, following reported interest from Morocco.
There has also been scepticism surrounding the Chiefs rumours. KickOff previously reported that a source had poured cold water on claims that Lorch was set to join Amakhosi.
If the move is eventually confirmed, it would undoubtedly rank among the biggest stories of the current transfer window.
Lorch’s South African History
Lorch is already a well-known figure in South African football.
He rose to prominence at Orlando Pirates before making a high-profile move to Mamelodi Sundowns. He later spent time with Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca before joining Al-Ittihad Tripoli in 2026.
His versatility, creativity and ability to operate in several attacking positions have made him one of the country's most recognisable attackers.
A return to the Betway Premiership would therefore generate significant interest.
What Could Lorch Offer Chiefs?
For Fernando Da Cruz, a player with Lorch’s experience could potentially provide another attacking dimension.
The French coach is building a new-look Kaizer Chiefs squad and has shown an interest in players capable of adapting to different tactical systems.
Lorch’s creativity, dribbling ability and experience in high-pressure matches could make him an attractive option for the Amakhosi attack.
However, any potential deal would also raise questions about the financial commitment involved.
Earlier reports suggested that Lorch signed a long-term contract with Al-Ittihad Tripoli after joining the Libyan club in January 2026. If that remains the case, Chiefs would presumably need to negotiate with his current employers to secure his services.
Naturena Appearance Adds Intrigue
The claim that Lorch was spotted at Naturena has naturally added another layer to the story.
But being seen at a club’s training facilities does not, on its own, prove that a transfer has been completed.
For now, the reported move should therefore be treated with caution until Kaizer Chiefs, Al-Ittihad Tripoli or the player himself provides official confirmation.
Should Chiefs eventually announce Lorch’s arrival, it would represent a major statement of intent from Amakhosi.
